南加周五晚的地震已修正為規模 6.9。南加在國慶日當天洛杉磯東郊上午10時33分發生25年來最大地震，規模6.4。

根據美國地質調查局（USGS）和歐洲地震監測中心，美國南加州5日晚間發生規模6.9強震，震央在Ridgecrest附近，傷亡或建物受損情況暫時不明。加州4日甫發生規模6.4的地震。

美國4日國慶，南加州當地上午10時33分發生20年來最大地震，規模6.4，震央在寇恩縣(Kern County)的瑟爾斯谷(Searles Valley)，深度僅十公里左右。遠在240公里外的洛杉磯也能感受到地震威力，估計全加州有2000萬人感受到地震。所幸除了震央附近的軍事武器測試場地受損較嚴重外，只有少數人受傷、兩棟民宅起火、部分建築龜裂、馬路裂開等災情。

規模7.1強勁餘震在7月5日下午8:18再襲南加，搖晃持近三分鐘。除了左右搖晃、還上下震動，住在蒙特利公園市的居民說，都可以聽到屋子搖出咔吱咔吱的響聲。
