Rare Yellow Turtle Rescued From West Bengal Paddy Field

An Indian photographer captured footage of a rare yellow albino turtle on June 8 shortly after it was rescued by the local West Bengal Forest Department.

The images were captured by Sanjay Kamila at the Purba Medinipur Forest Division facility, after a farmer discovered the monochromatic Indian flapshell turtle in a paddy field.

Images of a similar turtle, though with subtle differences on its shell, emerged a month later in the Balasore district of Odisha, also in eastern India.

Siddhartha Pati, executive director at the Association for Biodiversity Conservation, told CNN when speaking about the creature discovered in Odisha that such turtles have a yellow color due to albinism. Credit: Sanjay Kamila via Storyful
