Assayii Lake Fire Burns Through New Mexico's Chuska Mountains

Two Native American communities in New Mexico have been told to prepare to evacuate after a wildfire in the Chuska Mountains grew to over 11,000 acres. Around 700 firefighters were involved in fighting the wildfire which threatened two Navajo Nation towns, Sheep Springs and Naschitti, around 200 miles away from Albuquerque. The Assayii Lake Fire was fueled by strong winds and drought conditions in the area. Credit: Orlando Manuelito/Facebook
