Iraqi Defense Ministry Reports Airstrikes on Islamic State Oil Tank Trucks
The Iraqi Air Force struck a number of tank trucks controlled by Islamic State near the Qayyarah refinery on Aug. 13, the defense ministry said. An airstrike is shown at the start of this video, followed by shots of numerous trucks of the type used to transport oil. Local reports quoted Lt. Col. Abdul Rahman al-Jubouri saying the airstrikes targeted six sites in Qayyarah, 60km south of Mosul, where IS has been transferring crude oil to tankers.
The defense ministry said the Iraqi Air Force destroyed 16 trucks using Sukhoi aircraft, which would indicate the Su-25 Frogfoot aircraft was used, as the country’s current inventory lists 20 of that type, the sole variant built by that Russian maker. Credit: YouTube/Iraqi Ministry of Defense
