Rioting Erupts at Bulgaria's Largest Migrant Camp
Hundreds of migrants started rioting at the Harmanli reception centre, in southern Bulgaria, on Thursday, November 24, after a recent decision to ban its occupants from leaving the premises over health concerns.
According to Bulgarian news reports, the camp’s 3,000 migrants were being temporarily quarantined over fears of the spread of infectious diseases among the public.
Some 1,500 migrants attempted to break out of the camp around noon, reports said. When prevented, they set fire to car tyres and began hurling stones at hundreds of policemen. Credit: YouTube/Sakar News via Storyful
