【看英文中國郵報學英文】就讀宜蘭縣蘇澳海事學校的鄭翠玄，兩年前才來台灣正式接受中文教育，中文程度起步雖然比其他同學晚，但是，鄭翠玄在不熟悉的環境努力苦讀，還同時，幫忙分擔家計，跟著父母在菜市場賣菜。
Cheng Tsui-hsuan, a student at the Yilan National Su-ao Marine and Fisheries Vocational High School, came into contact with the Chinese language for the first time when she arrived in Taiwan two years ago. Although her exposure to the language started later than her peers, Cheng did her best at school while also helping out at home and selling groceries at the market.
今年大學指考成績優異，成為學校創校以來，第一位考取清大，而且還是外籍學生。
Still, Cheng passed this year’s College Entrance Exam with flying colors. In addition to being a foreign student, she was the first student accepted into National Tsing Hua University since the school’s inception 60 years ago.
鄭翠玄的母親來台工作後改嫁，兩年前將她從越南接來台灣，來台灣之前從未接受過正式的中文教育。
Cheng Tsui-hsuan’s mother came to Taiwan for work and later remarried to a local resident. Two years ago, Cheng flew to Taiwan to live with her mother. Before her arrival, Cheng had never learned Chinese.
鄭翠玄為了減輕父母的負擔，課餘時間幫忙種菜，假日也幫忙在菜市場賣菜。鄭翠玄也在賣菜時，練習中文口說能力，努力克服語言障礙。
To help out around the house, Cheng farmed vegetables during her free time and sold them at the market on weekends. Through selling groceries, Cheng practiced her Chinese-speaking skills to overcome the language barriers.
鄭翠玄剛來到台灣時，語言不通，不論是課業上或是平常生活溝通都遇瓶頸。學校的老師了解她的困難，為她取得英文教科書，讓鄭翠玄能較快跟上課程。除此之外，鄭翠玄下課後也會到社區大學修中文課，短短期間內，進步許多。
When Cheng first came to Taiwan, she didn’t understand Chinese at all and had difficulties in both academic pursuits and various areas in life. Seeing her struggles, her teacher obtained English textbooks to help her catch up. In addition, Cheng took Chinese classes at the local college after school. In no time at all, Cheng improved greatly in school.
兩年內，鄭翠玄參加三級會計能力測驗榮獲宜蘭縣第一名，也考取多張會計電腦證照。今年在清大特殊選才中脫穎而出，成為此不分系新生人。
In a mere two-years-time, Cheng acquired certificates in accounting and computer science, and took the third level national accountant ability test, placing first in Yilan County. With these accolades under her belt, she attracted the attention of National Tsing Hua University and was admitted through their special admission program.
鄭翠玄如今已取得台灣身份，表示未來希望能成為一名律師，幫助新住民發聲。
Cheng Tsui-Hsuan is now a Taiwanese citizen and she has expressed her wishes to become a lawyer in the future to be a voice for new immigrants of Taiwan.
