俄國傭兵組織華格納集團24日進行兵變，該集團老闆普里格津發動「清君側」，要消滅他在俄國軍方高層的敵人，國防部長蕭伊古以及參謀總長格拉西莫夫。
目前的消息顯示，華格納集團發動兵變的區域集中在俄烏邊境州，在羅斯托夫以及沃羅涅日州。推特上流傳的示意圖以紫色的區塊標示出華格納集團兵變區域。

在24日，華格納集團士兵開始進行行動，首先是佔領了俄軍南方軍指揮部所在地的頓河畔羅斯托夫，拿下指揮部。他們魚貫進入俄軍指揮部時看起來未受抵抗。

普里格津以其招牌的全副武裝裝束，在占領南方軍總部後發表談話。
華格納集團的行動看起來完全沒有遭受俄國正規軍抵抗。
網路影片與外電照片顯示，華格納集團除了他們常見的裝甲車，這次兵變也有戰車等重裝備，一輛漆有侵烏作戰象徵「Ｚ」字，但是不是一般的白色而是紅Ｚ的戰車出現在羅斯托夫街頭，與華格納集團傭兵一同行動。
在羅斯托夫行動的華格納集團士兵，看起來是在手臂、腿部綁上銀色的膠布進行識別。
羅斯托夫民眾對於突然出現在街頭的「起義軍」感到困惑，聚集後被華格納集團驅散。
