《環時》總編支持港警開槍 與《紐時》記者開戰

中國官方媒體《環球時報》總編輯胡錫進於今（ 18 ）日凌晨，在個人推特（ Twitter ）上發文，並附上香港警方於理工大學派出的銳武車（裝甲車）被汽油彈擊中、焚燒的影片，內文以英文書寫。胡錫進表示，該支影片在中國大陸廣為流傳，並認為香港警方行為克制，應授權給警察實彈開槍以制服這些「暴徒」。

2 小時後胡錫進再度發文，請求香港警方逮捕這些示威者，並稱這些人為「新型恐怖份子」，認為他們「綁架了香港的未來並且會毀滅它」。

It seems Hong Kong police have encircled main force of rioters in the Polytechnic University. Please arrest them in accordance with the law. They are new type of terrorists who have hijacked Hong Kong's future and threatened to kill the city.

對於胡錫進的言論，《紐約時報》駐外記者愛德華‧王（ Edward Wong ）轉發其胡錫進的推文表示，這位《環球時報》總編輯（胡錫進）的推文強調了為何《環球時報》是中國政府官媒，而不是合法的新聞組織，並表示該報社離合法新聞組織「還差得遠了」。

對於愛德華的推文，胡錫進則反擊和中國很多人跟他抱持同樣的看法，並認為愛德華是在誤導美國民眾。愛德華則表示，他沒有任何誤導他人的意圖，並且十分了解中國和香港那些支持港警實彈開槍的意見，但他質疑，作為一個「新聞機構」的總編輯，提倡實彈開槍的言論恐有不妥。

美國《紐約時報》於 16 日公布該社記者取得的新疆集中營文件，約 400 頁的文件內容包含，揭露「再教育營」的內部細節、官員如何回應被拘者家屬的詢問等，並稱該份文件是中國共產黨內部泄露出最大的一批政府文件。根據文件內容，過去的三年裡，已有超過 100 萬名維吾爾族、哈薩克族等少數民族人士被關集中營及監獄，引起國際社會對新疆人權議題的關注與討論。

而胡錫進也於日前質疑《紐約時報》所報導的內容，他在推特上轉發《紐約時報》官方帳號的推文，表示他並不知道《紐約時報》所公布的文件是真是假，但他十分確定新疆變的和平、繁榮且觀光客回流。
