原文:

Members of the G7 have called for an end to the 'intimidation and oppression of those opposing the coup' staged by Myanmar's military in early February.

'Use of live ammunition against unarmed people is unacceptable. Anyone responding to peaceful protests with violence must be held to account,' said a statement from the G7 foreign ministers. They also urged the military to 'exercise utmost restraint and respect human rights and international law.'

Following sanctions from the United States, both Britain and Canada announced measures imposed on Myanmar's ruling generals. In addition, Japan said it had agreed with the United States, India and Australia that democracy must be restored there quickly.

There is little history of Myanmar's generals giving in to foreign pressure. But they also face a challenge in the country of 53 million from protests that have drawn hundreds of thousands of people and strikes that have paralyzed much government business.
