Aga owners ditch premium gas-fueled ovens amid energy crunch

- All right, number two. Britain's skyrocketing energy prices causing many AGA owners to ditch their 5,000 pound, or nearly $6,000 US, cast iron ovens. The always-on nature of these premium cookers makes them less economical. Europe's current energy crunch is making people rethink them. Bloomberg reports that UK-based oven remover Jack O'Dwyer, he's taken out 35 AGAs this year and says he's received at least 100 phone calls from people across the country looking to sell them.

So it's interesting, because one would think if you are going to buy this pricey stove, if you have that kind of disposable income, that you would also be able to afford those higher energy prices. But they're going up at such a rate that people are trying to get more efficient. You look confused--

- I've never seen one of these before, or heard of them.

- Yeah, I've heard of them.

- I want to know how much they weigh. This guy's charging 500, 600--

- Cast iron.

- --600 pounds to remove this thing. They cost 5,000 or 6,000 pounds. I'd say he better have a buyer lined up if he's going to-- What are you going to do? Stockpile thousands and thousands of pounds of these things?

- I wonder if you can get them for scrap, get the money from the scrap?

- There you go. Scrap iron, pig iron.
