Aircraft Scoop Water to Fight 11,000-Acre Red Apple Fire in Central Washington

Firefighters worked to contain the Red Apple fire in Chelan County, Washington, on July 15. Officials reported the blaze had spread to 11,000 acres (about 17 square miles), prompting hundreds of evacuation orders.

Some evacuation orders remained in place on July 16.

Investigators said the wildfire may have been started by illegal burning, according to local reports.

The fire was 10 percent contained as of July 15, officials said.
