American Airlines stock up ahead of Q1 earnings

- All right. Shifting gears now. Coming hot on the wheels of United earnings missing on non-gaap earnings per share and revenue after the bell today, the stock I'm watching tomorrow is American Airlines, ticker AAL, with earnings before the opening bell Thursday. Now they ended today's session down nearly 2/3 of percent, but they're up more than 5% as you can see about 5/10 of there in after hours trading, and up about 8 and 1/2 percent here to date.

Now American did release preliminary Q1 results last week showing revenue coming in higher than expected. But still a 16% decline for the same period in 2019, so not back to pre-covid levels. Now factor in rising jet fuel costs amid surging oil prices, and that volatility could still be a risk, according to Citi analyst Steven Trent, as fuel expenses make up a significant portion of the company's overall cost structure. We'll see if that optimism holds in tomorrow's session.
