Antioch Students Tear Down US Flag During School Walkout
Students at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee, tore down a US flag outside their school, according to videos shared on social media and local news reports, as they joined a nationwide school walkout on March 14.
Antioch’s march was intended as a show of solidarity with victims of the February 14 shooting in Parkland, Florida, and as a call for stricter gun control, and a peaceful protest.
Metro Nashville Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Michaud responded to the events in a statement issued to local media, saying some students had “significantly disrupted school operations and threatened the safety and order for other students and staff.” Michaud said no one was injured, but added that “inappropriate behaviors that threaten school safety will be handled immediately and firmly in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and MNPD.” Credit: Meylin Zavala via Storyful
