Authorities Carry Out Evacuations as Tropical Storm Iota Approaches Honduras
Honduran authorities evacuated residents in Puerto Cortes on November 17 as Tropical Storm Iota moved toward the city.
Footage uploaded to Twitter shows the Municipal Council Aquatic Unit team on a motorboat transporting a handful of evacuees in the lowlands of Baracoa.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported sustained winds of nearly 155 mph when the storm hit the northeastern coast of Nicaragua on Monday, only 15 miles from the spot where Hurricane Eta made landfall on November 3.
Eta caused at least 200 deaths in Central America and Mexico, according to reports. Local authorities fear there will be more rain and landslides caused by Iota in areas left waterlogged by Eta.
