Bear Returned to the Wild After Eating Hallucinogenic 'Mad Honey'
A bear found intoxicated in Turkey’s Duzce Province after eating hallucinogenic “mad honey” was returned to the wild on August 12, after receiving medical treatment, according to the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry officials.
The Turkish Journal of Emergency Medicine reported that the “mad honey” is naturally occurring and can cause intoxication and hallucinations if consumed in excess.
The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry named the honey-loving bear Balzik.
Video posted by Dr Vahit Kirisci, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey, on Friday shows the bear returning to her natural habitat in the Duzce Province. The minister joked he hoped Balzik would enjoy everything in moderation, “even honey.”
