Building Burns as Riots Erupt in Minneapolis
A building was engulfed in flames in the early hours of May 28 as riots erupted in Minneapolis, Minnesota, following the death in police custody of George Floyd.
City authorities called for National Guard support, local news said, in a situation Gov Tim Walz described as “extremely dangerous.”
A journalist with the Minnesota Reformer, Max Nesterak, shared this footage of a building fire.
“You can see flames for a mile and feel the heat from a block away,” he wrote.
Protests started in the city on May 26, the day after video circulated on social media of a police officer pinning Floyd to the ground with his knee on Floyd’s neck.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said criminal charges should be brought in the case, and also called for calm.
“Please, Minneapolis, we cannot let tragedy beget more tragedy,” he said on Twitter. Credit: Max Nesterak/Minnesota Reformer via Storyful
