HUALIEN (TVBS News) — Following a significant earthquake on April 3, Hualien's (花蓮) tourism industry faces a daunting recovery, with the Butterfly Valley Resort (蝴蝶谷溫泉渡假村) announcing a temporary halt to its accommodation, dining, and hot spring services from August to the end of December on Thursday (June 6).

This decision mirrors actions taken by several other hotels in the region, including Silks Place Taroko (太魯閣晶英), Azure Hotel Hualien (藍天麗池), and CHATEAU de CHINE (翰品酒店), as they navigate the aftermath of the disaster.

Despite the government's efforts to revitalize tourism through subsidy programs, the Dragon Boat Festival holiday period saw only a slight increase in booking rates.

Chang Hsuan-han (張琄菡), the Hualien Hotel Association chairman, noted a significant drop in reservation rates compared to the previous year, indicating that the earthquake's impact continues to loom large over the region's recovery.
