Cascading Lava Pools in Crater During Kilauea Eruption
The Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island erupted late on Sunday, December 20, the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park said.
This footage, taken around midnight, shows lava in the Halemaumau Crater of Kīlauea.
On Monday, visitors turned up at Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park to view the spectacle in daylight.
According to local media, the USGS said the lava was “completely contained” in the roughly 1,640-foot-deep crater so it did not pose a direct hazard to the public. Credit: USGS Volcanoes via Storyful
