'We have to continue to serve': Local food pantry seeing higher demand than pre-pandemic levels

In the long line outside Heartland Hope Mission's food pantry, Tuesday night was Amber Ingalls. The third-grade teacher's husband not only lost his job after COVID-19, but suffers from several medical issues. That has him waiting on disability benefits and leaving her family with just one income to rely on. "It's hard for people to suck up their pride and come here. We don't imagine teachers needing help or in various jobs. There's reasons people come," she said.
