Critically endangered tiger cubs born in London
STORY: These are the world's
rarest tiger cubs
Location: London, England
A 'cubcam' captured the
moment they were born
ZOOKEEPER, AMY MCKILLOP SAYING:
"In the early hours of Monday morning Gaysha started her contractions and we watched on the live camera as she gave birth to one, then two, then three beautiful little tiger cubs. Sumatran tigers are the smallest and rarest of species in the world. The latest figures have indicated that there is about 300 left in the world.”
Sumatran tigers are classified
as critically endangered
and face an extremely high risk
of extinction in the wild
“We have seen a few key milestones already, which is very exciting. We have seen them feeding and taking their first few tentative steps. They are very big and very strong. We are using our special ‘cubcam’ to keep a close eye on the family. But we are also making sure not to disturb them too much so that they do have time to bond together.”
