Damage and Flooding Seen in Sicilian City as Extreme Weather Hits
The Piazza Universita in Catania, Sicily, was flooded, and cafe tables and parasols upended on October 5 as extreme weather hit the city.
Footage shared on the Facebook page of the travel blog You, Me and Sicily shows broken parasols and scattered chairs off the historic square.
According to the Municipality of Catania, there was heavy rain and hail, and “serious damage” done to “homes and businesses”.
Eszter Vajda, who recorded this video, said she’d never seen anything like it.
