工商時報【湯名潔】 最好的英文是直接講重點「你這樣做一定會『被』『挨』罵的。」許多人說中文會有冗字贅詞，英文句子裡這種情況也是屢見不鮮，別以為無所謂，多了這一個字，文法就是不對！以下五句，請刪改掉多餘的字，再多唸幾遍。 Debug 1.His English accent is very unique. Nobody knows where he is from. 他的英文口音非常獨特，沒人知道他來自哪裡。 2.The teacher wondered whether the reason for the fight was because each student thought he would win. 老師想知道，這場打鬥的原因是否是因為兩個學生都認為自己會贏。 3.Even though Sandy had good qualifications, but she didn't get the job. 雖然珊蒂條件好，但她沒有拿下工作。 4.At the party, Jenny was dressed in a red color skirt. 宴會上，珍妮穿了一條紅色裙子。 5.Are you feeling any more better? 你覺得好一點了嗎？ Debugged 1.His English accent is unique. Nobody knows where he is from. unique意思是「獨特的、獨一無二的、無與倫比的」，有其絕對性，前面不可以多加very、more、less等有比較性質的副詞。 2.The teacher wondered whether the reason for the fight was that each student thought he would win. 中文可以說「…原因是因為…」，英語只能在reason和because兩者間選一個保留，因為because本身的意思就是for the reason that，如果說the reason…is because…就相當於在說the reason…is for the reason that…，顯然多餘。 3.Even though Sandy had good qualifications, she didn't get the job. 中文可以說「雖然…但…」，但even though連接的從屬子句和but連接的分句卻不能同時出現在同一個句子裡。 4.At the party, Jenny was dressed in a red skirt. red（紅色）、yellow（黃色）、white（白色）、blue（藍色）…這些表示顏色的單字，後面不需再加color。 5.Are you feeling any better? better是good（好的）的比較級，不能在比較級的前面再用一個表示比較級的詞，如more。 世界公民，這是商業英語的last mile！ 很多人都說，英文好薪水會加倍，可以換到外商工作、可以更輕鬆溝通……英文確實可以為你做很多很多事，但是，它能為你的人生帶來的最大祝福是：找回失去的自信、耐心、膽量……還有，花了二十年還在跟英文纏鬥的人。人生不要一輩子都在跟英文纏鬥吧，要嘛放棄它不要有罪惡感，要不就征服它帶來成就感，英文學習的最後一站，報名電話（臺北）02-27215033、（新竹）03-5782199，www.core-corner.com
