Dust and Sand Blown From the Sahara Blankets Pyrenees Mountains
Dust and sand blown from the Sahara Desert covered swaths of Europe on February 6, including Andorra, where alpine ski slopes turned brown.
This footage was taken at Grandvalira ski resort in Andorra on Saturday morning. Similar scenes were recorded elsewhere in the small principality, nestled in the Pyrenees mountains that run between Spain and France.
“A major intrusion of Saharan sand and dust has dramatically altered the skies over parts of Europe today,” the World Meteorological Organization said in a tweet.
