Endangered penguins take first steps outdoors

Video shared on social media showed a first group to hatch during the 2020-2021 breeding season walking around and jumping into the water.

African penguins shed their juvenile feathers when they are 18-months-old in what is called a "catastrophic molt" and their new feathers grow in the sharp black-and-white coloration of adult African penguins, the zoo told Reuters in an email.

The species is listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
