FEMA and DHS Chiefs Tour Tornado Damage in Mayfield, Kentucky

The heads of the United States’ Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) arrived in Kentucky on December 12 to tour areas hit by deadly tornados late on Friday, December 10.

Deanne Criswell, head of FEMA, and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas attended briefings and toured the most affected areas in Kentucky, including the town of Mayfield, which sustained the heaviest damage.

At least 64 people were killed when a line of tornados tore through the state late on Friday evening into Saturday morning. Recovery efforts were still underway, Kentucky Gov Andy Beshear said in a press conference on Monday. Gov Beshear said at least four fully formed tornados were identified, one of which stayed on the ground for at least 200 miles. Credit: FEMA via Storyful
