Firefighters Work to Contain Route Fire Burning in Los Angeles County
The Route fire burning in Los Angeles County, California, was 5,208 acres and 12 percent contained on Thursday, September 1, according to an update on the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) Twitter page.
The LACoFD also reported that 53 engines and 378 personnel had been deployed to battle the fire that had destroyed one structure.
The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff said evacuation orders in the area remain in effect and several lanes on the freeway remained closed. The Los Angeles Red Cross said two shelters were open for those impacted by the fire.
