Fireworks in Moscow as Russia Welcomes 2022

Russia rang in the New Year with a dazzling fireworks display in Moscow’s Red Square, which was closed to the public to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The square was closed from 5 pm on New Year’s Eve until 7 am on New Year’s Day to prevent overcrowding amid the rise of the Omicron variant.
