Flooding at Newark Airport Disrupts Hundreds of Flights as Ida Stuns Northeast

All flights were suspended at Newark Liberty International Airport on the evening of September 1 as terminals flooded due to heavy rainfall from the remnants of storm Ida.

Video taken by JoAnn Eccles shows the ground floor at Terminal B under several inches of water, leaving travelers like Eccles stranded without access to the parking garage on the lower level.

In response to the severe weather, New Jersey Gov Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency for the Garden State.

Flight disruptions continued through Thursday, with 370 flights canceled at Newark Airport due to residual flooding.

The storm took a catastrophic toll on the region, with at least 29 people reported dead in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania in the aftermath, according to media reports. Credit: JoAnn Eccles via Storyful
