Generation AI: manga yes, Grammys no

STORY: From who’s been asking ChatGPT to draw manga comics, to why chatbots can’t win a Grammy, this is Generation AI…

Elon Musk has reaffirmed his view that there should be a pause in the development of AI.

Speaking in Paris, the Tesla billionaire said the technology needed more oversight:

"I'm in favor of AI regulation because I think advanced AI is a risk to the public and anything that's a risk to the public, there needs to be some kind of referee. That referee is the regulator and so I think that my strong recommendation is to have some regulation for AI.”

SoftBank founder and investment titan Masayoshi Son has been playing with ChatGPT.

He asked it to create new installments of the classic Japanese Manga comic Astro Boy.

Son is so enthusiastic about the tech he says SoftBank needs to go back into "offense mode" on AI.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wants his country to take the lead on regulation:

“So the UK will host the first-ever summit on global AI safety later this year. I want to make the UK not just the intellectual home, but the geographical home of global AI safety regulation.’'

He called on countries to cooperate on AI just as they do on climate change.

The firm behind ChatGPT is planning its own app store.

News website The Information says OpenAI will allow developers to sell their own products built on its tech.

Hundreds of firms already use ChatGPT to boost efficiency - and now there’s a race to offer more tools based on the system.

And chatbots won’t be allowed to make music…

Or at least they won’t be eligible for a Grammy if they do.

The U.S. Recording Academy says non-human creators can’t get one of their prestigious awards.

AI can lend a hand in some categories though, just not too much.
