Governor Ron DeSantis Booed at Jacksonville Shooting Memorial

Florida governor and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis faced boos at an August 27 memorial for the three victims of the August 26 shooting at a Jacksonville Dollar General store.

A video from the Jacksonville Community Action Committee, @jaxtakesaction, captures DeSantis approaching the podium amid the crowd’s boos. An unidentified individual can be heard shouting, “Do your job!” amid additional boos in the background.

Despite the heckling, DeSantis continues speaking until Councilwoman Ju’Coby Pittman steps forward to address the angry crowd. She urges them to set aside political divisions, stating, “Today is not about parties. A bullet don’t know a party.”

The crowd then chants, “What side are you on?”

Over 200 people gathered for the vigil, which was held in close proximity to the store where a white gunman fatally shot three black individuals.

The suspected shooter died at the scene. The US Department of Justice is investigating the incident as a hate crime. Credit: Jacksonville Community Action Committee @jaxtakesaction via Storyful
