John Altman, who played Nick Cotton on EastEnders, has paid tribute to the generosity and spirit of June Brown who played his screen mum Dot on the BBC soap.
"She was a dear friend," the actor said on GMB, "Someone I could confide in, and probably my second mother, really. My real mother said she looked more like my mother than she did!”

JOHN ALTMAN: --probably about a month ago, yeah. - And how was she? JOHN ALTMAN: She was a bit-- she was tired. - Yeah. JOHN ALTMAN: Yeah. But my own mother, I think she-- you can see she was she slowed right down. And I would like to say so much thanks and God bless her family who've been fantastic, rallying around her.
