Kentucky National Guard Clears Roads in Dawson Springs After Deadly Tornadoes

Kentucky National Guard engineers helped clear debris from roads in Dawson Springs on Sunday, December 12, footage released by DVIDS on December 15 shows.

This footage shows the devastation in the city, the National Guard machinery being used in cleanup efforts, and features guardsman discussing their unit’s mission.

US Army Specialist Jesse Hornback said the situation in Dawson Springs was “devastating.”

“Lots of people have lost their homes this close to Christmas. Possessions can be replaced, but people can’t,” Hornback said.

Sgt 1st Class Robert Moll said the guard’s main task was to clear the roads in order to allow search-and-rescue teams and supplies into the city.

At least 88 people were killed in the storms that swept through five states last week, with at least 74 people killed in Kentucky alone, the state’s governor, Andy Beshear, said. Credit: DVIDS via Storyful
