- Consider this a public service announcement. Mother's Day is a week away, so you got to get your flower order set, get your cards in the mail. And if you're an outside-the-box kind of thinker or, in this case, outside the bucket, Allie Canal is here with a finger-lickin' good gift, one that I did not see coming. Allie, one question, why?
ALLIE CANAL: Because it's KFC. Why not? They are known for their wacky Mother's Day promotions. We've seen the Chickendale dancers. That was 2019. They had chicken-flavored chocolate truffles one year. This is a bit more practical. It's basically a Buckquet. That's what they're calling it.
BRAD SMITH: Buckquet. A Kentucky Fried Chicken--
- Buckquet.
ALLIE CANAL: --Buckquet. And here it is in all of its glory. And it's pretty easy to get this. Basically, all you have to do is pre-order a Side Lover's Meal on the KFC app or online from May 1 to May 3, and they will send you a promo to get this kit. Now, disclaimer, the kit does not come with the chicken.
- No?
ALLIE CANAL: You have to order the chicken.
BRAD SMITH: Oh.
ALLIE CANAL: But it does come with skewers. And then you have to basically decorate it.
- And you have to skewer it yourself?
- You have to skewer it yourself. So you need to purchase a chicken to put on the skewer to put in the bouquet-- Buckquet--
- Wow.
ALLIE CANAL: --as they say. And then yeah. And then there you go. And then you got your perfect Mother's Day gift.
- What?
ALLIE CANAL: It's gimmicky, but it works. And it's interesting--
- All right.
ALLIE CANAL: --because KFC says Mother's Day--
BRAD SMITH: Yeah.
ALLIE CANAL: --is one of their best days in terms of sales.
BRAD SMITH: Really?
ALLIE CANAL: 400,000 fried chicken buckets are sold. It's a top day for online orders.
- This cannot be true, Allie.
ALLIE CANAL: That's what they said.
- Someone's getting their mom-- I love KFC. I do.
RACHELLE AKUFFO: You know what?
- I love it. Rachelle, what say you?
RACHELLE AKUFFO: But you know what, though? I-- you know what? I believe that, because since women end up doing most of the cooking at home, the one day we take off, you can't even be bothered to cook. You're going to go out and get us KFC instead, rather than cooking us the meal.
BRAD SMITH: Oh, man.
RACHELLE AKUFFO: That would explain why the sales are so high for Mother's Day.
- We got to do better.
ALLIE CANAL: Yeah, Rachelle is a mother, so I'm listening to Rachelle and KFC on this one. So-- and we'll see. KFC is a really good brand. They've been doing really well, even amid all the COVID-19 headwinds.
They saw same-store sales up 11% for fiscal 2021. And they're continuing to innovate their menu. We have the Beyond fried chicken, which I had the chance to try, which I thought was very, very good, actually, I will say.
- It's delightful. I'm not knocking the franchise, but I know how my wife would react. Rachelle, you're a mom. How would you react if this was your gift?
RACHELLE AKUFFO: You know what it is, though? I'm all about the intention at the effort. If you knew it was something that I liked, you take it with a grain of salt. If my daughter came to me with a bouquet of chicken, as long as I didn't have to do all the work--
BRAD SMITH: This is effort?
RACHELLE AKUFFO: I'd be like, you know what? I can't be mad at-- I think it's quite sweet.
BRAD SMITH: Is it hot? Is it warm?
- No, it's coldish.
ALLIE CANAL: It's not that warm.
- But cold chicken tenders are fine.
BRAD SMITH: There could at least be some special sauces that come--
- Honey mustard, please.
ALLIE CANAL: Oh, yeah. Honey mustard is my go-to sauce--
BRAD SMITH: Oh, 100%.
ALLIE CANAL: --for any type of chicken.
BRAD SMITH: 100%.
ALLIE CANAL: So I'm down.
- Hey--
BRAD SMITH: Yahoo Finance's Allie Canal always coming through with the answer--
- --kudos for creativity, man.
BRAD SMITH: Oh, yeah, absolutely, with the Buckquet.
ALLIE CANAL: Buckquet.
- Buckquet.
ALLIE CANAL: Buckquet, baby.
BRAD SMITH: Buckquet. All right, Rachelle, on over to you.
RACHELLE AKUFFO: It is the thought that counts--
BRAD SMITH: It is.
RACHELLE AKUFFO: --even if it's a slightly greasy one. It's appreciated.
