Laura Dern reveals why she came back for Jurassic World Dominion

Laura Dern is back as Dr Ellie Sattler in Jurassic World Dominion, and the film's environmental message really struck a chord with the star.

Dern had not played Sattler since a brief appearance in 2001's Jurassic Park III, which she shot in a single day, but was enticed back for director Colin Trevorrow's epic trilogy-closer.

The 55-year-old Oscar winner told Yahoo that she did not have misgivings about the prospect of coming back and once again sharing the screen with Jurassic Park co-stars Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum.

Jurassic World Dominion arrives in IMAX and cinemas across the UK on 10 June.

TOM BEASLEY: Was there ever a point where you had misgivings about coming back and being Ellie again?

LAURA DERN: You know, I didn't, in that the conversation started a couple of years before. Would I ever? What would it take? What would it look like? What did I think Ellie Sattler would be doing today?

Steven Spielberg is fiercely protective of his babies, his characters. And Colin, you know, really I think wanted to deeply honor that legacy of the first movie and capture the dynamics of those characters. But I think he also really cared, as Steven did, to give Ellie Sattler a return.

And the fact that the emphasis and the focus was an environmental one, and to consider that she would care deeply about climate change science and work in the area of soil science was-- made me really want to be part of it.

TOM BEASLEY: This is very much being positioned as the conclusion of this particular Jurassic trilogy. And I think it does bring things to quite a nice end point. Could you be persuaded to be Ellie again, if Colin or someone else decided to do so?

LAURA DERN: I don't know. I mean, I-- you know, I didn't think about it the first time, so I haven't thought about it this time. Because it feels like a culmination. And there are so many stories to tell, including with some amazing new characters. So I'm not sure.

But I've learned to believe never say never. Because in a few different worlds of storytelling, we did-- our show "Big Little Lies" was a one-time experience that ended up not being so. So if you're lucky, you get to play characters again and again that you love.
