Mauna Loa Lava Fountains Measured at 148 Feet

Active fissures on the Mauna Loa volcano sent lava fountains shooting up to 148 feet into the air on Tuesday, November 29, according to the USGS.

Footage shared by the service shows lava fountains at the Northeast Rift Zone and a lava flow on the northeast flank of the mountain.

The eruption at Mauna Loa started late on Sunday, November 27. On Tuesday, the USGS said that lava had flowed over a road but no properties were threatened.
