MLB votes on new rules to speed up pace of play

Major League Baseball has approved new rules to quicken the game, including bigger bases, a pitch clock, and eliminating infield shifts.

DAVE BRIGGS: Major League Baseball, once again, hopes to speed up America's favorite pastime. The MLB Competition Committee voting to eliminate infield shifts, implement a pitch clock, make the bases bigger, and limit pickoff attempts. Recent efforts to speed up the game have proven rather unsuccessful.

Last year, games averaged three hours and 10 minutes, so maybe they are more successful this time around. Baseball ratings are down slightly from last year. And the all-star game saw a record low in viewership. Attendance is also down in most Major League parks. Certainly an effort that is long overdue.
