- Gas prices are getting dangerously close to $5 a gallon with the National average for a gallon of gas according to AAA at 491 today. That is another record high. As for California, they have the highest prices at $6.37 a gallon, and the only state where the average is over $6. For now, the state where you can get the cheapest tank of gas is Georgia with an average price of $4.33 a gallon. Unfortunately, analysts do not see these prices coming down anytime soon. In fact, they think we'll break $5 a gallon very soon and continue to climb as the summer progresses.
