Neighborhood Creates Ice Carousel on Minnesota's Pelican Lake

A neighborhood of family and friends in Breezy Point, Minnesota, began celebrating the 2020 holiday season by creating an ice carousel on Pelican Lake.

With a sheet of ice covering the lake, the Rowley, Blum, and Berg families decided to emulate similar projects in Norway, one of the participants, Shaun Rowley, told Storyful.

“We used chainsaws to cut a 50-foot hole, and then used a trolling motor to make the circle of ice spin slowly,” explained Rowley, who originally posted footage of the carousel on Facebook.

Rowley added, “It was a lot of fun to ice skate on, but the real holiday magic came when we added a lighted Christmas tree, wood-burning fire pit, and some torches and fireworks after dark. It was a great way to stay warm with friends that we love while being safe and socially distanced outdoors.” Credit: Shaun Rowley via Storyful
