  • Paulina Porizkova posted a throwback photo reflecting on the lessons she's learned over the past year.

  • The photo shows the model from the back, wearing a teeny booty-baring bikini.

  • She wrote in the captoin that she's in a "different place, both physically, emotionally" than she was at this time last year.

Paulina Porizkova, 55, has had a year, and she’s marking it with a throwback post on Instagram.

In the pic, Paulina can be seen from behind wearing a gorgeous gold bikini while looking out over a balcony. “February 19, 2020. I’m staring out over the Costa Rican jungle, full of hope for the coming year,” she wrote. “I thought I was healing—and the road ahead was clearly marked.”

But, Paulina said, her year was far from what she expected. “What’s the saying—man makes plans while God laughs? Exactly a year later, I AM in a different place, both physically, emotionally,” she said. “I don’t yet dare to look ahead with the hope I had last year. I know better now. But I am looking forward to the day hope returns. To all of us. #sexyhasnoexpirationdate #betweenjloandbettywhite #februarysucks #hermosahills @luxuriousvillarental.”

While plenty of people sympathized with Paulina, others couldn’t help but notice how amazing she looks in the picture. “That body should be on the cover of Sports Illustrated! 🔥” one wrote. “Well, I was going to skip working out this morning but this photo made me turn around and get on my #Peloton bike. I can only hope. 😉” another said.

FYI: The model told ELLE she didn't even start working out until she turned 40. Before that, she said she stayed thin with the help of "cigarettes and poor nutrition."

But it took appearing on Dancing with the Stars to help her realize the importance of exercise. "I was just turning 40 and I was like, 'Wow, this is cool. I can actually have an effect on my body. It doesn't have to go to hell,'" she said. "I started so late that my body had no previous knowledge of muscle."

Paulina still dances, but she also does workout classes like Nofar Method Pilates.

Paulina’s past 12-plus months were tough, to say the least. Her former husband and father of her sons, Cars frontman Ric Ocasek, died in September 2019. Despite their separation, Paulina and Ric still lived in the same house at the time of his death.

Paulina shared in a conversation with Paula Polito, vice chairwoman of UBS Global Wealth Management, that she was cut out of Ric’s will because he felt that she had “abandoned” him. As a result, she says she struggled with money after Ric’s death.

“I got two mortgaged houses and the pension, but no way to pay for anything,” she said. “So obviously things had to be sold, but until they got sold, I had nothing to live on. I literally went through a year of asking my friends to buy us groceries. It was not a good position to be in.”

Paulina said her situation was “so easily preventable,” adding, “it was based on not misfortune, it was based on my own stupidity. It wasn’t that I had an evil husband. It wasn’t that things conspired against me, this is literally, I have nobody to blame for this except for myself.”

Paulina gave Ric a shout-out on Instagram on Valentine’s Day with a sweet post. “Yes, we were separated, yes, we were getting divorced, but I knew love didn’t die with a divorce,” she captioned a photo of the two of them. “We were not just husband and wife, we were family. I thought we would go on loving each other for the rest of our lives- having no idea how short of a time that would be.”

Despite her rough year, Paulina's definitely gained a serious following on Instagram, where she regularly posts about sexuality and healthy aging. She’s also posted plenty of nude photos, arguing that “sexy has no expiration date.”
