Rescue Center Orangutan Gives a Lesson in Hand Hygiene

An orangutan, rescued when she was almost five months old by the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOS) Foundation, has grown to be “assertive and charismatic” with the help of the animal rescue center, and was recently filmed taking care of her hygiene.

In footage posted on February 26, Cinta, which means “love” in Indonesian, was recorded during her day at jungle school washing her hands in some water, making sure to really scrub any dirt away.

She is described by BOS Foundation as an orangutan who, “loves to engage with her peers and babysitters, and will always find ways to surprise them; like throwing twigs in their direction from behind bushes, or suddenly crouching down in the path of an approaching babysitter.”

Cinta was rescued on February 14, 2015, at around five months old, and was named by former president of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, who was visiting the area at the time. Credit: NHNZ | Orangutan Jungle School via Storyful
