Satellite Imagery Shows Cyclone Gabrielle Tracking Towards New Zealand

Multiple severe weather warnings were in place as Cyclone Gabrielle moved towards New Zealand’s North Island on February 12, the Meteorological Service of New Zealand (MetService) said.

Satelitte imagery released by MetService shows Cyclone Gabrielle approaching Cape Reinga on Sunday morning, where wind gusts of over 140km/h were recorded.

Strong wind and rain warnings were in place across the North Island on Sunday, according to MetService.

Gabrielle posed a high risk of “extreme, impactful, and unprecedented weather” over many regions of the North Island from Sunday to Tuesday, MetService said. Credit: Meteorological Service of New Zealand via Storyful
