Supermoon Precursor Rises Over Foggy San Francisco Cityscape

A glowing full moon was filmed ascending the foggy and darkened skyline of San Francisco, California, on July 2, one day before the first official supermoon of the year.

Shreenivasan Manievannan, who shot the timelapse footage, told Storyful that it was a “magical feel[ing]” that he got to witness and shoot the full moon over the city.

A supermoon occurs when the moon is full while its orbit is the closest to Earth, making the moon look bigger than a standard full moon. The first supermoon of 2023 will appear on July 3 EDT, but the moon will appear full from Saturday evening through Tuesday evening. Credit: Shreenivasan Manievannan via Storyful
