American television icon Mary Tyler Moore passes away at 80

Known for her witty and graceful performances in television sitcoms in the 1960s and 70s, American actress Mary Tyler Moore breathed her last at the age of 80 after being hospitalised. The Brooklyn-born actress was known for her role in popular TV sitcoms 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' and 'The Dick Van Dyke Show'. It is said that the actress battled diabetes and underwent brain surgery in 2011 and became famous after starring on the 'The Dick Van Dyke Show' from 1961 to 1966. The sitcom 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' had seven seasons and was the first show to feature a never-married, working woman as its central character from 1970 to 1977. The seven-time Emmy winner began her career in modeling in a commercial for 'Happy Hotpoint'. Her notable film work includes 1967's 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' and 1980's 'Ordinary People'.
