Back from the Brink: The North American River Otter

In the late 1980s, North American river otters were considered extinct throughout many of their natural habitats. Fur trapping, water pollution and habitat loss all sent this semi-aquatic mammal to the brink. But there's good news: through re-introduction programs and fur trade management, their populations have stabilized and the species is on the upswing. Long may they swim!
