Charlie Hebdo Protesters in Kabul Demand Closure of French Embassy

Muslims in Kabul protested for the third consecutive day on January 27 against the publication of cartoon depictions of the Prophet Muhammad by French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. Two brothers, Cherif and Said Kouachi, attacked the Paris offices of the magazine on January 7, leaving 12 people dead. The so-called “survivors’ issue” of Charlie Hedbo that was published following the attack featured an image of Muhammad on its cover.

According to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the protesters “demanded formal apologies from both the French government” and Charlie Hebdo, and called for closure of the French embassy in Kabul. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
