Cold wave tightens grip across India

People in Jaipur city of Rajasthan braved icy winds on Saturday as the cold wave progressed to the lower reaches and gained strength across the country. People wrapped themselves in multiple layers of clothing as a shield against the cold. People were seen queuing up at the roadside tea stalls and sitting around bonfires to keep themselves warm. A resident, Moin, the sole bread-winner in his family, said that he had to come to work irrespective of the temperature to keep his family going. Earlier this week, the intense cold wave claimed its first life in Rajasthan, said local media reports. Meanwhile, New Delhi continued to reel under the dropping temperatures as the cold wave continued unabated. The homeless sought refuge and huddled up in night shelters to keep the biting cold at bay.
