Disturbance at Chios Migrant Camp for Second Night Running

There were renewed disturbances at the Souda migrant camp on the Greek island Chios on Thursday evening, November 17, after upheaval destroyed much of the premises there the previous night.

According to volunteers working at the camp, members of right-wing groups threw Molotov cocktails into the premises. However, it is not possible to independently confirm these claims.

Greek news media, citing locals, reported that migrants started the rioting the previous night after looting two local stores and stealing fireworks, which they fired at nearby houses. However, volunteers had a different version of events, accusing far-right groups of launching an attack on the camp and provoking its residents to retaliate.

On Thursday morning Chios Mayor Manolis Vournous, called on the Greek migrant minister to close the camp.
