Fire in Sutter Buttes Following Deadly U-2 Plane Crash
First responders rushed to Sutter Buttes, California, to put out a fire caused by a military plane crash on Tuesday, September 20.
A US Air Force U-2 “Dragon Lady” crashed near West Butte and Pass Roads shortly after taking off from the Beale Air Force Base. One pilot died and the other injured after ejecting from the aircraft, according to KCRA, quoting air force base officials.
The single-jet engine aircraft was assigned to the 1st Reconnaissance Squadron at Beale Air Force Base and was on a training mission.
This crash comes 20 years after another U-2 plane from the same air force base crashed into the car park of the Oroville Mercury Register in August 1996. Capt. Randy Roby and a civilian were killed. Credit: Facebook/County of Sutter, CA
