Increased Combat on Eastern Ukraine's Front Lines Causes Civilian, Military Casualties
Five days of increased combat between Ukrainian soldiers and Russia-backed separatists along Ukraine’s eastern border caused several civilian and military deaths, with skirmishes near Mariyinka on February 2, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reported.
Heavy weapons banned by a 2015 cease-fire deal have been used in the area, RFE/RL reported. Both sides have traded blame for the fighting.
Since the conflict began in April 2014, almost 10,000 people have died.
