Islamic State Says New Footage Shows Ongoing Clashes in Mosul's Old City

As Iraqi forces launched ground operations in eastern Mosul’s al-Nafat and Dur al-Muwazafin neighborhoods on March 13, clashes continued with Islamic State fighters in central Mosul’s Old City along Aleppo Street.

Iraqi Federal Police said to have initially captured Aleppo Street on March 11, however, Iraqi media reports said fighting has been ongoing in the area for nearly three days. The fight over Mosul’s Old City has escalated due to an escalation in suicide bombing operations, as well as the repositioning of IS snipers in the area, which served as one of the city’s biggest open-air markets.
